Mystery solved.

Last week we were discussing street art at my internship site. The first thing I thought of were these little mosaic space invaders that I used to see all over the place when I lived in Montpellier and travelled around Europe.

I was always stumped by their purpose and after all these years of wondering a simple Google search has turned up the answer. Apparently an unknown French street artist started ‘invading’ cities in the late ’90s, covering them in his 8-bit inspired mosaic creations . There are thousands of these little guys all over the globe (though none here in New Zealand) in different colours and styles.

Montpellier seems to have been well and truly ‘invaded’ with the installations creating a macro space invader when each point is joined on the map of the city.

I absolutely recommend doing a Google image search on any academic that you’re citing. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Howard Rheingold.

You know it’s going to be a good letter if it comes with a wax seal.

Since the Earthquake there are a lot of empty lots around town. It’s very disheartening to see constant reminders of everything we’re lost as a city.
Gapfiller is a charitable trust with the goal of using these spaces for creative projects.
I happened to stumble upon this one a while back. It’s definitely better to see something bright and positive than piles of crumbled masonry.

Video

Been working non-stop on an essay the past week or so. It’s due tomorrow and after much angst, the finish line is in sight.

This video illustrates my current feelings quite well.

I haven’t done any sewing in a long time. I felt that the point in time when I have a page long to-do list was the best time to start dabbling again.
I have no real plan for this quilt, I’m just working it out as I go.

I think we should all dispense with the pretense and just start calling it “Sleep late and Eat too much Chocolate Weekend”.

About a week ago, my Mum and I spent 20 minutes or so ridding my bathroom of this massive spider.
Last night, it returned to me in my sleep. I dreamt it was chasing me up and down the backyard, trying to crawl onto my bare feet.
The result was that I woke myself up by doing a horizontal highland fling or sorts.
Also, JWoww, from The Jersey Shore was there.
