Mystery solved.
Last week we were discussing street art at my internship site. The first thing I thought of were these little mosaic space invaders that I used to see all over the place when I lived in Montpellier and travelled around Europe.
I was always stumped by their purpose and after all these years of wondering a simple Google search has turned up the answer. Apparently an unknown French street artist started ‘invading’ cities in the late ’90s, covering them in his 8-bit inspired mosaic creations . There are thousands of these little guys all over the globe (though none here in New Zealand) in different colours and styles.
Montpellier seems to have been well and truly ‘invaded’ with the installations creating a macro space invader when each point is joined on the map of the city.
